Lime powder is quite useful for decomposing toxic solid waste.
Firstly, when quicklime powder comes into contact with water, it will react and generate a lot of heat. If there is something that is afraid of heat in toxic solid waste, this heat can cause them to decompose. It's like some toxic organic compounds, as soon as the temperature rises, they break down like they've been broken up.
Then, when quicklime powder turns into calcium hydroxide, it becomes alkaline. If toxic solid waste is acidic, such as acidic sludge containing heavy metals, it can neutralize the acidity. Moreover, when those heavy metal ions come into contact with hydroxide ions, they will precipitate like they are being captured. In this way, heavy metals are trapped in the sediment and are less likely to escape and harm people.
Also, some toxic solid waste is like sticky mud that is difficult to handle. After adding quicklime powder, it becomes less sticky, making it much easier to handle whether to bury or burn.
